  • The Wilderness Lodge

    The Wilderness Lodge is a complex of six self-catering apartments and one small cottage, situated in the heart of Glenmalure, at the foot of Fananierin Mountain, a little over 100 metres from the Wicklow Way. The apartments are part of a recently converted pottery studio. All the rooms face west, looking out towards Carrawaystick Mountain, and each with direct outdoor access. Five of the units sleep two people and last unit sleeps four people. An Tigín (little house) is a self-contained cottage that sleeps two people and is adjacent to the main complex. It provides extra a little extra privacy compared to the apartments and has its own entrance and all the utilities needed to prepare meals. The room has its own en-suite with shower, a small dining table for two and a flat-screen television with satellite stations. Each unit has a kitchenette and there is a complimentary welcome pack provided on arrival with essentials. An easier alternative to cooking is to cross the bridge to the Glenmalure Lodge to secure an evening meal or breakfast in the morning. The Wilderness Lodge is a great base for taking a day off the Wicklow Way to relax, or perhaps for the experienced hiker, a climb up Lugnaquilla, which sits above Glenmalure Valley and is the highest mountain in Ireland outside of County Kerry. Alternatively, it is possible for groups of 8-16 people to use the Wilderness Lodge as a walking base for the entire Wicklow Way.   • Coolalingo B&B

    Coolalingo Bed and Breakfast is an excellent choice for travellers visiting South Wicklow and the Glenmalure Valley, situated near Drumgoff Bridge just 150 metres from the Wicklow Way walking trail. A small farm holding adjoins the bed and breakfast which consists of a few paddocks that lead down to the Avonbeg River. The Ballyboy Brook runs along the western boundary line of the property and divides it from the Glenmalure Lodge car park. The bed and breakfast has five bedrooms, each with an en-suite, free toiletries, and a hairdryer. Guests have use of a shared lounge and garden at the property and tea and coffee are served on arrival at the house and are also available anytime downstairs upon request. A wonderful breakfast is served here, and packed lunches are available upon request! An evening meal can be secured at the Glenmalure Lodge which is just 50 metres away from Coolalingo. During the Summer, there are occasional Traditional Irish Music sessions in the pub in the evening, which provide great entertainment after walking for the day. There are several horses and two donkeys in the paddocks behind the house. Guests are welcome to feed the animals once they remain behind the fence.   • Purple Haze Café

    The purple Haze Café is situated in the beautiful converted stableyard at Wexford Lavender Farm, a short drive south from Arklow. The Purple Haze café serves breakfast, lunch and their range of delicious cakes will be sure to tempt you! There is seating for 65 people inside and you can also bring your meal outside to enjoy on one of the picnic tables in the courtyard. The menu is good value for money and the new ice cream parlour is not to be missed!   • World War 1 Memorial Park

    The Wicklow War 1 Memorial was designed to commemorate the 1,192 men from the county who lost their lives in the first World War. A site was chosen, located adjacent to the River Aughrim This small Park is located in beautiful surroundings on the bank of the River Aughrim at Woodenbridge, 7km from Arklow, overlooking the historic spot where, on the 18th September 1914, John Redmond delivered a speech to local Irish volunteers calling on them to join the British Army and support the cause of Home Rule on the battlefields of France. Take some time to wander the memorial, where the names off all those lost are displayed on local granite pieces, arranged to give a sense of enclosure that would have been experienced by the soldiers in the trenches. The existing Alder woodland and ruined bridge were retained on site and incorporated into the design. Local natural stone was used for paving, rock protection, kerbing and signage. This is a place of peace and tranquility where you can reflect. Parking is along the roadside adjacent or at the nearby Woodenbridge Hotel and the Park is wheelchair and buggy friendly.     The Lakehouse sits in a beautiful waterside location onsite at the Hidden Valley Resort in Rathdrum and is open daily during the Summer season. Takeaway is available during July and August and there is an ice cream parlour located inside The Lakehouse.
